What Does "Digital Label" Mean on Vinted? A Plain English Guide

You sold an item, opened the order, and instead of a label to print you were offered a “digital label”. It is not a mistake, and it usually makes posting easier.

What a digital label is

A digital label is a code, usually a QR code, that stands in for a printed shipping label. The courier scans it at drop-off and prints the real label there. The delivery details are stored in the code, so you do not need an address written on the parcel.

Digital label versus printed label

  • Printed label: a PDF you print and stick on the parcel yourself.
  • Digital label: a code you show on your phone, or print if you prefer.

Which one you get depends on the courier and the drop-off option the buyer chose. Royal Mail commonly gives a QR code. InPost and Evri can also give a digital label. See InPost and Evri digital labels explained and the Royal Mail QR code label.

Do you have to print it?

No. You can show it on your phone at a drop-off point. If you have no printer at all, read how to send a Vinted order without a printer.

When printing it is still useful

Some sellers print the code as a paper backup, so they are not relying on their phone at the drop-off point. For Royal Mail, the printed code is still scanned there to print the real label. It is not a label on its own, so never post it in a postbox. If you print it from the A4 page, the code can come out small. Crop My Label puts it on a clean 4×6 so it prints large and scans reliably.

Quick answers

Is a digital label the same as a QR code label? Often, yes. The QR code is the most common type.

Is it free? Postage is already covered by the Vinted order.

What if I only see a QR code and no label? That is normal for a digital label. The code is the label.
