Vinted Royal Mail Parcel Lost or Damaged? How Seller Compensation Works

A parcel that never arrives, or arrives broken, is the worst part of selling on Vinted. The good news is that sellers are covered in many cases. The catch is that the rules are strict and the process is slow. Here is how it works for Royal Mail orders, based on Vinted’s help centre.

Who gets compensation

Vinted says compensation is available to Standard and Pro sellers when:

  • the parcel was sent with a prepaid Vinted-generated shipping label, and
  • the carrier confirms it was lost or damaged.

Royal Mail is one of the carriers covered, alongside Evri, InPost, DPD, Relay and AnyVan. The maximum is £500.

If you sent the order without the Vinted label, Vinted says to contact the shipping provider directly. That includes a parcel posted in a postbox with only the QR code attached. Royal Mail cannot register it, so there is no tracking and no compensation. See can you post a Vinted parcel in a postbox.

Packing matters

Vinted compensates lost or damaged Royal Mail parcels as long as they were packed properly. An improperly packed parcel may make you ineligible. The basics are in our guide to packing and labelling a Vinted Royal Mail parcel: sturdy packaging, the item snug inside, strong tape and the label flat on the largest side.

Take photos of the item and the packed parcel before you send it. They are your evidence if the buyer reports damage.

How long before a parcel counts as lost

Vinted gives a parcel 25 business days to arrive, excluding weekends and bank holidays. It cannot investigate until that time has passed, or until the tracking status in the conversation changes to “lost”.

If the conversation shows a message that the parcel may be lost, the buyer has 2 days to confirm whether they received it. Until then, the advice is to wait. Shipping is rarely quick when something goes wrong, and Vinted says investigations can take several weeks.

If tracking never appeared in the first place, see Vinted Royal Mail tracking and proof of postage.

How you are paid

When the carrier confirms the loss or damage, Vinted issues compensation up to the set amount to your Vinted Balance. Vinted lists reasons you may be ineligible, including improper packing and counterfeit items.

Ownership of the parcel

If you receive compensation for a lost parcel, you transfer ownership of the parcel and its contents to Vinted Go UAB, including any claims against the carrier. If it turns up later, Vinted Go UAB may handle or dispose of it. Do not expect to get the item back.

What to keep

  • Proof of shipping. The drop-off receipt, an email confirmation or a copy of the label, until the order is complete.
  • Photos of the packed parcel, inside and out.
  • Your conversation with the buyer. It helps if the buyer’s claim is in dispute.
